I had been considering what I could do to earn some money so that I could take care of unexpected expenses such as maintaining my 13-year-old car, and my senior citizen cat. My son had assisted me quite a bit during the four years of retirement at age 62 for health reasons. However, my health had improved and I wanted to be independant once again, and so I was highly motivated to call Mr. Ray Coates at the SCSP. Largely due to his friendly and encouraging manner, and the confidence he expressed in my ability to obtain employment, that would make use of my 39 years of secretarial experience, I went to the Urban league for an interview. After my discussion with Mr. Coates, his positive attitude rubbed off on me, and I looked forward to going back to work. Sure enough, just a month later, I was interviewed for the position of Program Assistant for the Transitional Employment Program, and was elated to be accepted for the position. I have been working since April 21, and am enjoying my job quite a bit! It seems that I get more done then I was unemployed. Working has helped me feel at least ten years younger-actually I have to remind myself that I am 66! Programs: Employment After Training Awareness Commitment; Housing Credit Counseling; Housing Rehabilitation; Illinois Home Weatherization Assistance Program; Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program; NUSET TRUC; Seniors Employment Program; Seniors in Community Service Program; Transitional Employment Program; Urban League Paint Program; Youth Employment Programs |
