They stated that they were experiencing difficult times and needed some additional support. They eagerly enrolled in the FCD Program. Upon entering their home for the first time, the FCD Speialist was astounded to find the apartment unfit for living. It was growing cold outside and many windows were broken. The only heat was in the living room so that was where the family slept on the floor. The walls were soft, there was a major leak in the kitchen, there were spots on the porch where the floor had given way, the doors would not lock, and there were other problems. The FCD Specialist was able to assist them in locating a clean, safe affordable and decent home and then help them with the first month's rent from CSBG funds. Once the family moved into its new home, their spirits were lifted and they were able, with the FCD Specialists help, to begin addressing other issues facing the family. They are still enrolled in the FCD Program. The husband has begun attending college in the hopes of obtaining a degree and increasing his earnings prospects. The family continues to move toward a life of self-sufficiency with the help of TCOC and the FCD Program.
