The family was displaced due to a fire that destroyed their home. Although they had homeowners insurance, the insurance company would not provide any benefits until the damage assissment was completed. CSBG staff interviewed the family, assissed their needs and through the Emergency Crisis Intervention Program the family received temporary lodging at a loca motel. We also provided emergency food. The husband became ill and had to see a doctor. His illness caused him to miss several weeks of work without pay. We provided him with an emergency medical voucher that paid for his doctor visit. Staff worked closely with the family, and as a result of their efforts they moved into public housing. The husband has returned to work, and the wife secured a part-time job. They used the proceeds from the insurance settlement to purchase another home.
