Church Rockford, IL 61102 Executive Director: Mr. George Davis Telephone: 815-987-5782 Fax: 815-987-5762 Website: no website available People Served: 22436 No. of Employees: 101 No. of Volunteers: 168 Service Area: Boone, Winnebago Success Story: The Rockford Human Services Department provides services in Boone and Winnebago Counties. Like many other areas in the nation, we have seen a dramatic increase in Hispanics in our Community. Almost one-third of our customer population is now Hispanic. We offer a family case management program focused on the Hispanic population as well as English As a Second Language classes. Our Hispanic Case Management program is staffed by Family and Community Development caseworkers who are knowledgeable in Hispanic culture and language. Because our agency has recognized and focused resources towards this population, local Hispanics feel comfortable approaching staff with their needs. A recent example of the importance of this access was a young Hispanic woman who was in an abusive marriage. She has no idea of how to get out of this situation or how to access local domestic violence resources. She was totally financially dependent on her husband and very concerned about the effect of the violence on her son. By sharing her needs with her CSBG FCD caseworker, she was able to access the local domestic violence center, hire a lawyer and successfully divorce her abusive husband. She now works full-time, has purchased a used car, goes to ESL classes and GED classes. She is much mor confident about herself and her abilities. We are very proud of her and the staff who have helped her through this difficult process. Programs: Community Garden Project; Community Services Block Grant; CSBG Loan Program; CSBG Scholarship Program; Emergency Housing Assistance; Family and Community Development Program; Food Baskets; Head Start Program; Homeownership Program; Illinois Home Weatherization Assistance Program; Information and Referral Services; Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program; Summer Food Program; Hispanic Outreach; ESL; Senior and Disabled Outreach. |
