She came to Kankakee from another state due to domestic violence. She was staying in the local domestic violence shelter but was in need of more permanent housing for herself and her three children. She was unable to find immediate employment because she did not have an Illinois photo ID. She began meeting with her case manager who worked with her to get her birth certificate which she needed to get her photo ID. After obtaining the photo ID she was immediately able to secure employment where she is able to utilize her accounitng and computer skills. She continues to reside in the KCCST transitional shelter. She was recently reassessed using the Family and Community Development Scale and has moved up eleven pounts. We are very proud of "Mary" and look forward with her to the day that she and her children are able to move into a place of their own. Programs: Emergency Services (Housing, Sewer and Water Assistance, Shelter), Transitional Shelter, Affordable Housing, Senior Services, Energy Assistance, Weatherization Scholarships, Economic Development (Small Business Loans and Job Readiness and Computer Training), Certified Renters, Youth Programs (Youth sports and Afterschool) Information and Referral, Family and Community Development and Transportation Assistance.
