For the past two months she and her two children had been living in a transitional housing facility for a year. She had been issued a Section 8 Voucher, but was having a hard time finding a landlord who would rent to her with no previous rental history. With the help of the counseling she received at DCCSD she was able gather letters of reference and learn how to present herself positively to landlords. Even though she had not been able to work consistently because of the stress of her temporary living arrangement, she had been able to save some money for a deposit. Unfortunately, it was not enough. DCCSD collaborated with a local church to provide the rest of the needed funds. She and her two children are now safely housed in an apartment they can afford and she is working full time. DCCSD was able to use CSGB funds in conjunction with private faith-based funds and Federal HUD Section 8 funds to move this family on the path to self-sufficiency.B Programs: Community Services Block Grant; Economic Development; Emergency Assistance; FEMA-Local Board; Family and Community Development, Info Line; Senior Services funding Tenant Advocacy, Parent Training; Furniture Assistance.
