Economic Opportunity Corporation. With one of her cheldren disable the mother found herself taking the child back and forth to St. Louis for surgeries and checkups, incurring large medical bills. This family had been living in low-income housing for the past six years and was dependent on food stamps, when she sought out our agency services to assist her family. The family received energy assistance, case management and attended our Homebuyer Program home ownership training workshop. Since that time, this individual has purchased a home through Rural Development and has started a day care center in her home. According to the C.E.F.S. family case manager and housing counselor, this mother and her children went from living in low-income housing, dependent on food stamps and renting to being a homeowner and day care business operator in an effort to become self-sufficient. With the hope of providing even a better life and greater opportunities for her children, this individual is now wanting to go to college to become a kindergarten or first grade teacher. This individual proved to herself and to her family that Community Action works. Programs:Central Illinois Public Transit Community Services Block Grant, Comprehensive Housing Counseling Program, Emergency Food and Shelter Program, Emergency Shelter Program, Golden Circle Nutrition Program, Head Start Program, Homebuyer Program, Illinois Home Weatherization Assistance Program, Literacy Program, Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, Outreach and Referral Program Services, Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, Single Family Owner Occupied Housing Rehabilitation Program , Energy Conservation and Home Repair Program, Supportive Housing Program, Teen Parent Services, Tramsitional Shelter Program, Welfare to Work Program and Workforce Investment Act Program. |
