| LIHEAP Program Description
The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is funded through the U.S. Department of Health and Human services and an Illinois LIHEAP program that is funded through a meter charge for individuals, small industrials and large industrials. These revenue sources provide much needed emergency and bill payment assistance to low-income households at or below 150% of the federal poverty level.Low-income households who are having trouble paying their energy bills are eligible for assistance to pay a portion of the bill, making energy more affordable. These are one-time, lump sum payments that go to the energy provider on behalf of the low-income household. LIHEAP also provides crisis assistance and emergency furnace replacement and repair to eligible households. |
