The business, LWA, grew to employ 50 workers and currently has an administrative staff of five. After enrolling in an Asbestos-Abatement Program that led to State certification, Mr. Dodd enrolled concurrently in the Self-Employment Training Program (SETP). SETP works collaboratively with the Chicago Law Project's Pro Bono Legal Services, which helped offset startup legal fees. It was the nurturing that Mr. Dodd received through the CSBG-funded SETP program and the collaboration with other programs that enable him to start his own business. LWA's first contract was with the City of Chicago for $42,000. LWA is a certified minority business enterprise with the State of Illinois, the City of Chicago, and the Chicago Housing Authority. The company is now branching out into rehabilitation construction and business maintenance. Last year the firm grossed $1,7000,000.
